The Final Queensday - Reprise

Amsterdam, April 30, 2014 - Actuarchaeologic research carried out along the shoreline of the Nieuwe Meer, a lake near Amsterdam, has yielded a curious artefact from the recent past. A recording, brimfilled with repetitive rhythms and undulant basslines, was dug up from under the sylvan soil, entangled between the roots of trees. It seems to have been some kind of musical tool used to synchronize group activity, engaging an entranced state of mind and enhancing the psychosomatic interreactivity of a crowd of people.
Judging from the story behind this sonic relic, the people of the Neverlands were involved in a full-scale, national cerebralation known as The Final Queensday, one Sun in our past. Whether this tool is still implemental and its musical magic can be experienced in our common present, remains to be seen or -in this particular case- heard.

The DJ's involved in mixing the trippy tunes were Jason Mason & The Melanchoholic Megalomaniac aka (L=D)² & Satyr Barbarossa. During part 1, (L=D)² was occupied with liquid space & dia-projections, but who's counting tracks when mixing warped with curved for five straight hours. April 16, 1943 - Whilst quite a large part of the world was tearing itself into smaller pieces - once again, for the sake of power, by the rule of greed - a fungus of certain infamy, felt her offspring had been shunned long enough after being born, five years earlier, in 1938. She sent her child back to communicate with the doctor, who had been there in the delivery room, at Sandoz Laboratories in Switzerland, when and where her baby first saw light on Earth.

Their initial contact, then and there in the lab, left the doctor feeling confused to such a degree, that he could not focus on or continue with his work. He returned to his home and, after regaining a relaxed state of mind, became moderately hypnotized by the visual aspects of the lingering transmission, which mesmerized him for a couple of hours.

When his ego resumed consciousness control behind the dashboard of his mind, the doctor, who had in fact a background in chemical sciences, thought he had actually enjoyed quite a pleasant experience, due to a certain unsolicited intoxication. He gathered he must have unknowingly ingested a minute amount of the substance he was reinvestigating that day.

From the human perspective of a materialist individual, this particular substance, the offspring of said infamous fungus, would soon become a renowned tool -the most powerful of its kind to date- to explore the inner realms of the Terran psyche. Some consider it to be a spiritual antiseptic, others may even refer to it as an evolutionary counterweight to balance the creation of the device of destruction, which was born in the same era, on the warfaring side of the globe. The Universe seems to have peculiar ways to equilibrate itself, indeed.

The doctor was Albert Hofmann. The fungus' name is Ergot,
or rather Mother of Rye. Her child is called LSD.

April 19, 1943 - Not completely content with the result of their first encounter, as her child had not spoken loud or clear enough to be fully understood by the chemist and therefore did not receive the essential attention it deserved, Mother of Rye arranged for a second meeting, three days later.

The echo of her voice presented Dr Hofmann with the decision to self-prescribe a small dose of LSD, in order to enable the two to make closer acquaintance. Easily convinced by the vivid memory of his recent pleasance, the scientist reasoned that by repeating the experiment, it would be establissed with more certainty whether or not the serendipitous encounter with his research chemical had been completely accidental.

The dosis -250 micrograms, in retrofact- turned out not to be as small as Hofmann had expected it to be. Little did he know about the friendly onslaught of chaos at his fingertips, screaming in eager silence. Yet as soon as he felt inebriated by the initial effects, he laid down his work and asked his assistant to accompany him on his bikeride home, as he felt it was unsafe to head out on the road by himself. Moments later, whilst looking over his shoulder, he could see Mother of Rye, fading into the distance, waving with a wide smile, as she knew she had accomplished her Great Work.

The trip that followed is historical and its effects resonate throughout time, far beyond our common present. This date, April 19, has become known around the globe as Bicycle Day. That means, here and now: three days to gear up. Serendipity awaits.

It was the year when they finally immanentized the Eschaton. On April 1, the world's great powers came closer to nuclear war than ever before, all because of an obscure island named Fernando Poo. By the time international affairs returned to their normal cold-war level, some wits were calling it the most tasteless April Fools' joke in history. I happen to know all the details about what happened, but I have no idea how to recount them in a manner that will make sense to most readers.
For instance, I am not even sure who' I am, and my embarrassment on that matter makes me wonder if you will believe anything I reveal. Worse yet, I am at the moment very conscious of a squirrel -in Central Park, just off 68th Street, in New York City- that is leaping from one tree to another, and I think that happens on the night of April 23 (or is it the morning of April 24?), but fitting the squirrel together with Fernando Poo is, for the present, beyond my powers.
I beg your tolerance. There is nothing I can do to make things any easier for any of us, and you will have to accept being addressed by a disembodied voice just as I accept the compulsion to speak out even though I am painfully aware that I am talking to an invisible, perhaps nonexistent, audience.
Wise men have regarded the Earth as a tragedy, a farce, even an illusionist's trick; but all, if they are truly wise and not merely intellectual rapists, recognize that it is certainly some kind of stage in which we all play roles, most of us being very poorly coached and totally unrehearsed before the curtain rises.
Is it too much if I ask, tentatively, that we agree to look upon it as a circus, a touring carnival wandering about the Sun for a record season of four billion years and producing new monsters and miracles, hoaxes and bloody mishaps, wonders and blunders, but never quite entertaining the customers well enough to prevent them from leaving, one by one, and returning to their homes for a long and bored winter's sleep under the dust?
Then, say, for a while at least, that I have found an identity as ringmaster; but that crown sits uneasily on my head (if I have a head) and I must warn you that the troupe is small for a universe this size and many of us have to double or triple our stints, so you can expect me back in many other guises. Indeed do many things come to pass.
