The Chosen Vibe

"the chosen vibe for the ritual of dance is carried by psychedelic trance, a bass-throbbing mind-boggling space-wobbling style of music that can raise enough hairs on a person's back to grow old Dionysos a brand new five foot beard!"

psychedelic trance, psytrance or simply psy
the next stage in the evolution of electronic dance music, taking off from where its predecessor goatrance landed, somewhere around the edge of the last millennium.

nowadays, psychedelic trance knows quite some subgenres and styles, yet too many words can be turned over at once to describe any style of music. to hear a number of auditorily expanding explanatory journeys set up for your aural pleasure, please click some of the links on the right.

T.I.P. Records (1994 - 1998)

without a single doubt, one of the most influential record labels when it comes to the evolution of sound in goatrance, the style of music preceding psychedelic trance (psytrance in short newspeak, shorter and even more newspoken as psy). this label was initiated by Graham Wood and Raja Ram, frontmen of former musical formation The Infinity Project, together with Richard Bloor and Ian St Paul. the label was discontinued when the distributor Flying Records went bankrupt.

The Infinity Project - Feeling Weird

Graham Wood is now producing
psychedelic trance and breaks
under the alias Blowfish together
with Tony Stapleton.

Raja Ram
took it to a different edge, creating the TIP World record label with Richard Bloor, and continued his musicalcareer as flute-player and adlib skat-brat (amongst other positions), cooperating with keyboard and studio-wizard Simon Posford aka Hallucinogen, as the ambidelic formation Shpongle.

What the funk is ambidelic?

º

Now what the funk is ambidelic?

A term to describe the musical mixture of ambient and psychedelic trance, first coined a decade ago by Raja Ram* and sported amongst the verbaliaisons on the cover of a TIP Records' release, if my long-term-memory doesnt leave me hanging in the midst of it all. Been digging through my albums, 12 inches and cds, but cant find the one i am searching for .. as of yet.

º

What else may be ambidelic?

As i might be one of the few travelling through the blogosphere to still use this particular and peculiar verbal expression, it could be elucidative to browse through my ambidelic tags and catch a glimpse of this musical universe next door to yours, or scroll around a bit more to hear a set of ambidelically spiced mixes .. .. nothing mandatory, but enjoyable. * Besides being the frontman of Quintessence, co-creator of The Infinity Project and TIP Records, Raja Ram is one of the two minds behind Shpongle - les connaisseurs extraordinaires d'ambidelic - Simon Posford aka Hallucinogen being his counterpart.
