Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer
Without this little box our divine dance around the Sun wouldn't just look or sound differently today, it would exist as a totally different world all together. Of course, with any little piece of history missing from our common past, the world would appear different just as much -maybe more or less- but that seems beside the point. This particular one and a few other little boxes from that renowned Japanese music machine manufacturer helped shape the human world over the past 35 years more than other little boxes have. Well .. they did shape (the sound of) mine ... and I do like to consider myself a human, every now and when, 'tween time and space, ergo: cheers to an alltime favorite drum machine, the Roland TR808!
Charanjit Singh - Synthesizing
Ten Ragas to a Disco Beat (1982)
A perfect example from the early eighties (clearly ahead of its time, in retrocoustics) sporting both TR808 and its little sibling TB303 in action - synthesized by Charanjit Singh who recently passed away.
